Find a Church

District Staff

We are thankful to have a strong team of dedicated leaders ready to serve you.

Ray Van GilstRay Van Gilst District Superintendent

In the fall of 1980, Ray asked his college prayer partner, John Stumbo what he should do the following summer after graduating, about a job opportunity he had been presented with. John flippantly replied, “I think you should start a church in an ugly town in Wyoming.” Unexpectedly to both of them, that got the ball rolling, and for the next 25 years Ray planted churches in Utah and the areas around Utah (including Wyoming). In 2006 he began as the Church Planting Director for the CPD, and in 2014 he took on the role of District Superintendent. He has a deep love for churches and pastors of the CPD, and his main concern is that each one will be more like Christ each day as they reach their community for Him.  Contact Ray at

Tim AgnelloTim Agnello Missions Engagement & Intercultural Care

Tim has been a pastor with the Alliance for over 15 years and has a passion to bring the name of Jesus to the neglected places around the globe where He has not yet been proclaimed. He also has a passion to reach and encourage the various people groups, immigrants and refugees who have landed at our doorstep here in our own communities. Tim’s favorite hobby is catching snakes and one of his quirks is that he usually stutters when he preaches – it’s a good thing that the power is in the message, not the messenger! He has been married for 18 years to his beautiful wife, Wendy, and they have 2 wonderful daughters, Camryn & Jordan, who both attend High School in Natomas, CA. Contact Tim at

Nathan Edwardson

Nathan Edwardson Church Planting Strategist

To be honest, I never really wanted to be a pastor. I grew up in the church and once High School hit, I did anything and everything possible to avoid fake plastic Christianity. And then I met Jesus. As a 22-year old college student wrapping up my senior year at Simpson University, I began the journey to follow Jesus with my whole life. A few years later, that journey led me to plant a church.

In January 2007, my college sweetheart wife, Erica, and I felt God’s leading to plant the Stirring, a young and growing church in Redding, CA.  I love Jesus, family, sushi, film and revival. I am dreaming with God for an awakening not only in today’s church, but also in families, cities and generations. A creative visionary, I integrate my love of music and film with our passion for shaping disciples who will shape the world.  I enjoy life with our four children – Ava, Adiah, Asher, and Alicia. And of course, our big brown dog Jackson. Contact Nathan at
